Leading innovative non-profit organization, Aloha Harvest, launches a new website to increase rescue efforts

Leading innovative food rescue non-profit organization, Aloha Harvest, has announced the launch of its new website as part of its plans to promote its charity work and help even more people around the island of O‘ahu. Aloha Harvest has carved a niche for itself with its unique efforts of rescuing quality, donated food and delivering it free of charge to social service agencies feeding the hungry, consequently preventing food waste on one hand and helping to feed the hungry on the other.

Food is one of the major components of any rescue effort as there are billions of people starving across the globe due to natural and man-made disasters. While several charity organizations donate food and other such items to persons in need worldwide, a significant portion of the donated food ends up wasted. This is where Aloha Harvest continues to make a huge difference and help agencies touch even more lives.

The concept of rescuing donated food and delivering it to the needy was first used in the early eighties with the 1982 City Harvest project. Aloha Harvest consequently adopted the concept when it was established in November 1999, bridging the gap and providing a reliable link between businesses that wanted to donate good, perishable food and social service agencies with clients to feed.

Since it was founded in 1999, Aloha Harvest has stayed true to the pursuit of its mission of rescuing quality, donated food and delivering it “free of charge” to social service agencies feeding the hungry in Hawai‘i, with over 21 million pounds of food including quality perishable and non-perishable foods, as well as beverages rescued. Aloha Harvest has only one purpose – to rescue food to feed the hungry.

Aloha Harvest is primarily funded by grants and individual contributions.  Our base funding is from our founder, Hau’oli Mau Loa Foundation. Some of the foundations that have awarded Aloha Harvest with a grant this year include: ABC Stores, Friends of Hawai’i Charities, Visitor Industry Charity Walk, First Hawaiian Bank, Bank of Hawai’I, Aloha United Way and the Combined Federal Campaign.

More information about the efforts of Aloha Harvest and how to contribute to the laudable cause can be found on the newly launched website.
