San Francisco, CA – In 2018, Nobody Told Me! was named one of the top 25 “Most Downloaded New Podcasts” on iTunes. This year, the mother-and-daughter show will celebrate its 200th interview and its position as one of the top-rated self-improvement and motivational podcasts on the Web.
The show’s extraordinary roster of interviews has included a wide variety of inspirational people, like kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart, Tuesdays with Morrie author Mitch Albom, country radio personality Bobby Bones, and Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin. Each episode centers on a common question: how do people respond to challenges when high hopes, diligent preparation, and secondhand advice aren’t quite enough?
That question pervaded co-host Laura Owens’ life immediately following college.
“That’s an unsettling time for most people,” notes Owens. “But the sense of being blindsided by the unforeseen is universal. Co-host Jan Black agrees, and also credits the show’s success in part to its intergenerational dynamic. Black, whose radio career of more than 20 years earned her countless accolades including a Peabody Award for coverage of the 1989 San Francisco Earthquake, has seen teams of all types host shows of all stripes, and recognizes something special in her work with Owens.
“The fact that we’re family didn’t guarantee success,” Black observes. “But the fact that we love and trust each other shows through, and that’s a real strength of the podcast.
