The online ticketing platform grew 180% in 2016 to solidify its leadership

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – 12/25/2016 — Sympla, Brazil’s leading Do-It-Yourself (DIY) ticketing and event management platform announces the acquisition of Eventick, Brazil’s second largest DIY ticketing platform. The move further grows Sympla’s leadership in the market and expands the company’s reach in Brazil. It also reinforces its presence in major capitals such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Recife.

“This is a landmark deal that will affect the growth trajectory of Brazil’s ticketing platform market”, said Sympla CEO Rodrigo Cartacho. “It will broaden our reach to event organizers and participants around the country offering a modern, simple, agile and reliable experience in ticketing and event management.”

In 2016, Sympla reached $35 million in online sales — a 180% growth over last year. The number of events and active organizers grew at the same rate, reaching over 58,000 and 18,000, respectively.

Sympla is a rare case of a bootstrapped startup in the Brazilian market. It broke even very early and for more than four years grew above market levels without VC investment. In this period, it has grown to become the platform offering the most events for sale in Brazil. Last June, Sympla received $4 million in its first round of funding from Movile, a global leader in mobile marketplaces. Recently, it reached a record 5,500 experiences available in a single day in hundreds of different cities in Brazil and sold an average of 10 tickets per minute. There is a wide range of attractions available, from great shows and sporting events to parties, congresses, courses and networking meetings.

“With the growth and engagement we’re seeing, Sympla is positioned well to extend its leadership across Latin America and beyond. We intend to utilize the expertise that Movile has developed scaling marketplaces around the world to support and empower Sympla to build a leading global ticketing platform,” said Fabricio Bloisi, CEO and founder of Movile.

The company’s self-service platform allows any user to create and fully manage their events. With freedom and agility, organizers can create a customized page, have smart control of buyers, sell digital and physical tickets and check-in participants. The platform allows users to  manage all sales channels in an integrated way and keep track of results through real-time reports. The company also offers customized solutions for medium and large events through their Sympla Pro services.
